Our Top Morning Rituals
Ever heard the saying, “win the morning, win the day?” Starting on the right foot can help set the tone for your entire day. Here are our tried and true morning rituals that help us move through our day mindfully and energised.
Set an Intention for Your Day
Guilty of reaching for your phone the moment you wake up? Make a vested effort to look inwards for a minute or two before connecting with the outside world. Upon waking, take a couple of minutes to set an intention for your day to keep you grounded and connected to what’s important to you. Ask yourself: what will bring me joy today? What will help me stay aligned with my goals? How do I want to feel today? For example, “Today I intend to keep focused and avoid external distractions,” or “Today I intend to embrace peace, joy, love and kindness in my life.”
Declutter Your Space
Getting out the door in the mornings can feel like a mammoth effort when ready-ing the rest of your tribe, but taking a minute or two to pack away your makeup, hang any clothes or make your bed will declutter your mind, too. It also means when you’re feeling weary from a busy day, you already have a tidy, appealing space in which to enjoy your night time wellness rituals.
Hydrate First
While it's tempting to switch on the coffee machine the moment you set foot in the kitchen, do yourself a favour and try drinking a glass of water with a squeeze of lemon first. Experts say drinking water first thing can hydrate the body while aiding digestion and metabolism function. Not only this, but drinking water in the morning helps to flush out the stomach and balance the lymphatic system, which in turn promotes a strong immune system. Keeping well hydrated is a cornerstone of wellness, read more about the importance of hydration here.
Break the Fast with a Nutrient-Rich Smoothie
Equal parts convenient and delicious, a smoothie is an excellent breakfast on-the-go option. Load your blender with a mix of fruits and vegetables for an extra dose of hydration, vitamins and minerals to give you long-lasting energy and make you feel fabulous. We love blending mixed berries, half a frozen banana (or frozen zucchini), nut butter, greens like spinach, kale or broccoli, alongside plant-based protein powder that contains little additives or preservatives. Try adding more greens than fruit to your smoothie to ensure you’re getting the most nutrients from vegetables and not overloading on sugar. Nurture Yourself Tip: Keep it simple, choose 1-3 things to include in your daily morning ritual and give it a go to see if it feels good to you.
